D5903 awaits breaking at G. Cohen's scrap yard at Kettering on the 7th August 1969. The locomotive arrived for scrapping on the 20th July 1969 and was dismantled by October of the same year. The remains of another class 23, reduced to frames only, lies behind.
Cohen's was actually situated near Cransley on the Loddington branch which diverged west from the Midland Main Line south of Kettering station. The route of the disused line passed between Great Cransley and Loddington and the first part of the branch has now disappeared beneath a housing estate. The scrapyard no longer exists but anyone wishing to make a pilgrimage can find the former site situated on the outskirts of Kettering on the A43 Northampton road. It was at the bottom of the hill between Kettering and Broughton. These days the site is on the right after the A14 / A43 junction heading towards Northampton.
