On the 27th October 1980 55010 (D9010) "THE KING'S OWN SCOTTISH BORDERER" worked the 1A28 11:00 Edinburgh - Aberdeen and is later seen at Aberdeen Ferryhill TMD. Note the locomotive is attached, via its steam pipes, to the large cylinder on the left hand side of the photo and it would appear the staff at Ferryhill were putting to very good use a 3,300 hp steam cleaner!!...

...Seen more clearly is the pipe connecting the Deltic to the large tank. The tank may have contained diesel or some such other substance and the last dregs of liquid and sludge were being purged from the tank...

...55010 (D9010) "THE KIN'S OWN SCOTTISH BORDERER" later returned to Edinburgh via the 1E43 20:35 Aberdeen - King's Cross, however, was sent straight back to Aberdeen powering the same nights 1S70 22:15 King's Cross - Aberdeen!! Here 55010 rubs shoulders with 55003 (D9003) "MELD" which had arrived in Aberdeen via the 1S12 05:50 service from King's Cross.
