On 28th August 1980 55010 (D9010) "THE KING'S OWN SCOTTISH BORDERER" is seen at Doncaster Works waiting for its final intermediate overhaul to begin. 55010 was taken out of service at York on the 22nd August, pending its overhaul, and there is evidence that parts had already been robbed for other members of the class as the second man's cab windows in the No.1 end (nearest camera) are missing. 55010 entered works on the 28th August and repairs were complete by the 17th October. 55010 may never have been repaired at all, as one member of the class was due for withdrawal at this time, both 55003 and 55010 were due intermediates at the same time and it was 55010 which saw repairs authorized whilst 55003 was withdrawn and broken up in early 1981.
