History was made on Saturday 6th May 1978 when 55010 (D9010) "THE KING'S OWN SCOTTISH BORDERER" hauled the last scheduled loco hauled 1S17 10:00 King's Cross - Edinburgh "The Flying Scotsman" service. 55010 is seen at King's Cross awaiting departure - five days earlier 55022 (D9000) "ROYAL SCOTS GREY" had hauled the service on its 50th anniversary of the first non-stop run complete with winged thistle.
