On the morning of 27th July 1981 55011 (D9011) "ROYAL NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS" was removed from the 1N12 00:05 King's Cross - Newcastle service at Peterborough and sent to York for repairs. The locomotive is seen above at York TMD awaiting a tow to works on the 29th July - this would come the following day when 55013 (D9013) "THE BLACK WATCH" was dispatched form York to Doncaster TMD for tyre turning taking 55011 along with it. 55011 was released back into traffic on the 6th August after No.1 power unit, 449, was replaced by 434 due to 449 throwing oil and its exhaust collector drum having a fracture.
