D9013 was officially accepted into traffic on the 14th September 1961 having arrived light engine at Doncaster Works from its makers at Vulcan Foundry, Newton-le-Willows. Only three days later and with only delivery mileage on the clock D9013 waits acceptance trials at Doncaster Works on Sunday 17th September. The date of actual release from works and into traffic is unfortunately not recorded.
