On the 8th May 1980 55013 (D9013) "THE BLACK WATCH" was taken out of service at home depot York TMD for a 'C' examination. A decision was undertaken to prepare the locomotive, the latest of the class to receive a classified repair at Doncaster Works, for inclusion at the forthcoming Rainhill Trials celebrations later that month. Here 55013 is well into its repairs and repaint on Sunday 18th May1980. This version of livery, with silver fuel tanks and radiator grilles, would become a trademark of the depot and was applied to the locomotives chosen for the Deltic farewell railtour duties in late 1981...

...Another view of 55013 (D9013) "THE BLACK WATCH" at York shed on Sunday 18th May 1980. The locomotive was released back to traffic on the 21st May 1980 when it worked the 1A47 10:45 York - King's Cross service. Sadly after the efforts of York TMD's staff the locomotive was not sent to Rainhill - sister locomotive from Finsbury Park 55015 (D9015) "TULYAR" being the locomotive chosen to take part instead.
