55014 (D9014) "THE DUKE OF WELLINGTONS REGIMENT" oozes atmosphere at Montrose on the 10th April 1981 as it waits departure with the 1A23 08:55 Edinburgh - Aberdeen service. Smell the salt air and oil...

...The return diagram of the 1A23 was 1G64 12:40 Aberdeen - Edinburgh and 55014 is seen here passing Kinaber signal box.

The line behind is the west coast route, at that time still open for freight to Brechin. All railway features are now gone - box demolished, stub of west coast line ripped up, semaphores cut down and  the scrub/bushes taking over. There is a little sign opposite the site of the box on the up side declaring this historical location - that's all you get if you were the most famous box in the land!
