On Sunday 18th March 1979 55014 (D9014) "THE DUKE OF
WELLINGTON'S REGIMENT" is seen at York with the 1Z72 11:25 Edinburgh -
Birmingham additional at York. 1Z72 ran as an additional following the
Penmanshiel collapse, the booked 1V92 starting from Newcastle in its booked path
and 1Z72 following approximately one hour later.
55014 came off at York and the adjacent 40034 was waiting to work forward. It is interesting to note that 40034 was
the only steam heat loco available at York this day and had it not have been
available 1Z72, crewed with York men, would have gone forward to Birmingham with
the Deltic. Even more bizarre would have been the trains extension to
Bristol, which was undertaken with the York crew conducting on the loco.
