Languishing on Doncaster Works awaiting power units 55016 (D9016) "GORDON HIGHLANDER" is seen on Sunday 17th June 1979. The locomotive was out of traffic from 10th January until the 27th September and concerns grew as to whether the locomotive would ever return to service with other members of the class also out of action awaiting units. Two members of the class 55001 (D9001) "ST. PADDY" and 55020 (D9020) "NIMBUS" were not so lucky and their fate was the cutters torch in early 1980.
