On the 25th July 1981 55016 (D9016) "GORDON HIGHLANDER" was rostered to work the 1S97 12:00 Scarborough - Glasgow Queen St service from York. Remarkably the locomotive was allowed to run through to Glasgow and is seen at Queen Street station shortly after arrival. Travellers on the next Glasgow service, the 1S98 14:35 Scarborough - Glasgow, behind 55010 (D9010) "THE KING'S OWN SCOTTISH BORDERER", were not so lucky as 55010 was removed at Edinburgh.
