Fresh from its Heavy General Repair, the first of the class to be so treated, 55016 (D9016) "GORDON HIGHLANDER" arrives at a sunny King's Cross on the 29th April 1976. The most noticeable alteration to the locomotive being the plating over of the headcode panels, however, the repair was so extensive that all inner and outer bodyskin had been replaced...

...55016 (D9016) "GORDON HIGHLANDER" had been out of service from the 5th July 1975 until the 27th April 1976 undergoing the classes largest overhaul program and had been back in service only two days in this scene at King's Cross. The Heavy General Repairs were deemed too expensive for a class with a designated short life span and only for other members were to receive the overhauls, each receiving less attention than the last.
