Still pending an uncertain future 55016 (D9016) "GORDON HIGHLANDER" is seen in the scraplines at Doncaster Works on Sunday 7th March 1982. The locomotive was later purchased as a source of spares by the D9000 Fund for locomotive D9000 "ROYAL SCOTS GREY", however, it too was returned to full working order.
