During the morning of 11th November 1979 a group of 'bashers' find themselves way off the normal route with the heavily diverted 1S72 22:30 King's Cross - Edinburgh service which originated out of London on the evening of 10th November. Here 55017 (D9017) "THE DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY" waits the road at Holytown after diversions via Carlisle, Dumfries, Kilmarnock, Crossmyloof and  Polmadie, the train continued on via Shotts picking up the Carstairs to Edinburgh line at Midcalder Junction. 55007 also worked this route on the morning of Sunday 9th December with the 1S70 overnight service from King's Cross.
