55017 (D9017) "THE DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY" passes Usan signal box on the 20th April 1981 with the 1A23 08:55 Edinburgh - Aberdeen service...

...A superb portrait of 55017 as it returns from Aberdeen with the 1G64 12:40 Edinburgh service through Ferryden on the 20th April 1981.The locomotive has just departed Montrose and crossed the single track Bouche's  Bridge, a slender curved viaduct, and will now plunge into Ferryden's 'S' shaped cutting emerging again at Usan where the track once again doubles.
