55018 (D9018) "BALLYMOSS" is seen connected to a type 'ZP' resistor wagon whilst undergoing electrical tests at Doncaster Works on 20th August 1980.
Up until the mid 1980's the electrical capacity of the the Locomotive Test House was adequate, in that it could handle one Deltic, two class 37's, two class 31's, or permutations there of, but with the arrival of the Class 56's (also type 5) extra capacity was required. Whilst an extension was built and alterations made some loco's were tested in the Crimpsall Yard coupled to the 'ZP' resistor wagon as seen above.
