With the ECML blocked at Penmanshiel, due to the tunnel collapse in March, 55018 (D9018) "BALLYMOSS" comes off the stock of the 1S31 15:00 service from King's Cross at  Berwick on the 30th April 1979. The locomotive would work back with 1E26 20:43 Berwick - King's Cross as far as York. Services were terminated at Berwick, and overnight trains diverted via Carlisle, until late August 1979 when the line re-opened with the Penmanshiel diversion.
