Considered a failure because of faulty windscreen wipers 55018 (D9018) "BALLYMOSS" had the ignominy of being assisted by 46046 on the 1L43 14:05 King's Cross - York service on 30th August 1980. 55018's wipers were operable on its No.1 end and was able to return to London with the 1A31 18:13 York - King's Cross service.
