...King's Cross driver George Elliot waits for the road as 9001 "ST. PADDY" makes the Doncaster stop with 1L16 13:20 King's Cross - Bradford on 20th April 1970. The small plate attached to the cab-side, between Double-Arrows and cab door is an 'Experimental Notice' applied to all locos denoting any variation from the norm. In this instance it could relate to one of two things: 9001 was fitted with modified extra water capacity at its Light classified repair during March 1970, however, the loco is also seen with 'air-flow tags' attached behind the nose fitted air horn. The presence of which may relate to the effect the nose-mounted horns had on windscreen clearing (or rather not clearing) in the outer corners of the windscreens! Observation of the air-flow tags would be done from another loco, whilst both at speed, very likely on a Sunday!...
