Conclusions 10.10.73: DME Newcastle states: According to DME KX (letter of 3rd October 1973) a fault occurred on the following day and was due to the conduit to the ETH connection box breaking, causing the insulation of the wire to be chafed through to copper. This was temporarily repaired. Inspection later at Gateshead showed the temporary repair to be sound enough to warrant no further attention, especially as renewal of the conduit would entail the locomotive being withdrawn from service. It has therefore been left for ultimate works attention.
