...Deltics were frequent travellers across the Pennines in the latter years, mainly on services between York and Liverpool, however from 1978 they also quite often worked the York - Shrewsbury mail trains as far as Stockport. Pictures of such workings are rare, however 55021 (D9021) "ARGYLL & SUTHERLAND HIGHLANDER" is seen here at Stockport on the 27th October 1981 with the 1M41 22:08 York - Shrewsbury. The locomotive would be removed at Stockport working back to York with the 1E24 22:50 ex Shrewsbury.
