To celebrate 20 years of Deltic service on the ECML 55022 (D9000) "ROYAL SCOTS GREY" waits to depart King's Cross with the 1L42 12:20 service for York complete with commemorative headboard (supplied by the Deltic Preservation Society) on the 28th February 1981 - twenty years to the day that D9000 entered service. The train even had a brass band send-off and one of the players can be seen in a red tunic to the left of the locomotive. At York NRM there was a Deltic display cabinet including memorabilia, nameplates and photographs. 55022 returned with the 1A26 15:50 York - King's Cross...
