On the 4th September 1981 55022 (D9000) "ROYAL SCOTS GREY" is seen at Langford, north of Hitchin, with 46046 in tow en-route from Finsbury Park to Doncaster TMD. 55022 was in fact returning to home depot York TMD for repairs following collision with 55021 (D9021) "ARGYLL & SUTHERLAND HIGHLANDER" at Finsbury Park on the previous day and can be seen minus one buffer on the leading end. York dispatched 55022 back south to Stratford Works for repairs and whilst there a decision to include the locomotive in the forthcoming Deltic Farewell Railtours was taken and a repaint and application of former D9000 numbers was also undertaken.
