55002 (D9002) "THE KING'S OWN YORKSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY" accelerates away from Newark Northgate on the 1st August 1981 with the 1S12 05:50 King's Cross - Aberdeen service. The locomotive would be removed at Newcastle and was to power a series of 'Merrymaker' specials the next day between Newcastle, Middlesborough and Whitby.
