Four Deltics were sidelined for the extensive program of farewell railtours in October 1981 and kept at their home depot York TMD between duties. To keep the locomotives fit for service and for proving runs following repairs York often turned them out on the 1M62 08:50 York - Liverpool and 1E99 13:05 Liverpool - York out-and-back services. One such occasion occurred on the 20th October 1981 when celebrity 55002 (D9002) "THE KING'S OWN YORKSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY" worked the Pennine route and is seen above at Liverpool prior to departure with 1E99.
