55002 (D9002) "THE KING'S OWN YORKSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY" coasts into
Grantham, on Tuesday 21st April 1981, with the 1L41 10:05 King's Cross - York
service. Now repainted into original two-tone green livery, pending its future
preservation at the National Railway Museum York, "KOYLI" meets
class-mate 55009 (D9009) "ALYCIDON" (later preserved by the DPS) working
the 1A13 09:33 Hull - King's Cross service, still embellished with white window
surrounds denoting its Finsbury Park allocation.
The 'Park' lost its locomotive allocation the following month on the 31st May
and the 'Racehorse Deltics' moved to York losing the white windows as a
consequence - 55009 was in fact the final locomotive to work from Finsbury Park
whilst the depot still retained its allocation and as a tribute it was turned
out to work the 1L44 16:05 King's Cross - York which carried a wreath and
headboard with the legend "Finsbury Park Farewell"...
