On New Years Eve 31st December 1980, two ex Gateshead machines, 55017 (D9017) "THE DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY" and 55002 (D9002) "THE KING'S OWN YORKSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY" are seen side by side at King's Cross. 55017 had brought in the 1A04 07:00 Hull - King's Cross "The Hull Executive" service whilst 55002 was at the stops with the 1B05 08:31 Peterborough - King’s Cross. It was the final week of locomotive operation for "The Hull Executive" services and both the up and down services carried the headboard from the 29th December until Sunday 4th January. As from the 5th January 1981 the trains became HST diagrams.
