On bank holiday Monday 4th May 1981 55002 (D9002) "THE KING'S OWN YORKSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY" hauled the "Deltic Fenman" railtour from King's Cross to Wansford (Nene Valley Railway) and return. The outward leg was via Stratford, Cambridge and March and is seen above passing Cowbit between Spalding and Peterborough...

...The celebrity green machine comes off the stock at Wansford...
...And is attached to a rake of more unconventional coaches for the trip via the Nene Valley to Orton Mere - BR standard 70000 "BRITANNIA" stands along side. The tour was so successful that 55009 (D9009) "ALYCIDON" repeated the process with the "Deltic Fenman II" on the following bank holiday 25th May. Both tours returned home from Peterborough to King's Cross via the East Coast Main Line.
