55004 (D9004) "QUEEN'S OWN HIGHLANDER" takes root in the Canal sidings at Doncaster Works on Tuesday 23rd October 1979. Poor spares and power unit availability had led to the locomotive being stored unserviceable at Doncaster for the best part of two years and at this time the locomotives future looked grim. Three days later, however, 55004 moved to the paint shop for drying out purposes and repair evaluation. Patchwork repairs were made and the locomotive was released back to service on the 2nd December 1979...

...The inside of 55004 on 23rd October 1979 - many parts had been robbed in favour of other class members and the two remaining Deltics that Doncaster had pushed to the back of the queue awaiting power units (55001 & 55020) never had repairs sanctioned these locomotives being cut up in early 1980.
