...Withdrawn on the 8th February 1981, for no other reason than it was due a classified repair, 55005 (D9005) "THE PRINCE OF WALES'S OWN REGIMENT OF YORKSHIRE" awaits its fate among the detritus of many locomotives at Doncaster Works on Sunday 3rd May 1981. The locomotive was stored pending the withdrawal and safe preservation, as part of the National Collection at York, of 55002 (D9002) "THE KING'S OWN YORKSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY" the only other Deltic locomotive to carry a Yorkshire name.
