Deltic railtours had been few and far between in the years leading up to 1978, however, with the introduction of HST sets in May of that year more and more tour organizers capitalized on the attraction of the class and steadily the Deltics broadened their horizons setting sail for various destinations around the UK. In 1981 and with the class drawing near to the end of their careers a tour programme was planned for the final part of the year that even saw dedicated locos reserved for such diagrams. Prior to the onset of the 'farewell' tours 55007 (D9007) "PINZA" is seen enjoying a day out at the Nene Valley Railway on 12th September 1981 having arrived with the "Deltic Anglian" tour from Finsbury Park which had traversed the lines via March and Spalding. Although a firm favourite among many Deltic devotees 55007 was not chosen as one of the dedicated tour locomotives this honour fell to 55002, 55009, 55015 and pioneer production loco 55022 (D9000).
