When 55004 (D9004) "QUEEN'S OWN HIGHLANDER" failed on the 21st February 1981 whilst working the 1L42 12:20 King's Cross - York service at Peterborough (subsequently removed in favour of 31407) 1L42 had to be terminated at Doncaster. The late running prevented it from reaching York in time to turn round and return as 1A26 15:50 York - King's Cross. This required 55008 (D9008) "THE GREEN HOWARDS" to run light engine from York to Doncaster, seen above, to provide motive power for the return service which ran as the 1A26 16:27 Doncaster - King's Cross...
