On the night of 23rd April 1981 55008 (D9008) "THE GREEN HOWARDS" departed Edinburgh with the 1E35 20:25 overnight service for King's Cross, however, during the early hours of Friday 24th April the train became derailed at Claypole, near Newark, this was because 55008 was forced to reverse the train due to an engineers possession and part of the consist became derailed over catch-points. This resulted in many services becoming diverted or cancelled during the early hours of the 24th - 55008 did eventually reach King's Cross with 1E35 and is seen as it departs King's Cross to Finsbury Park, for servicing, having been released of the stock...
