...55009 (D9009) "ALYCIDON" is seen amidst wintry
conditions at Parkside on the 10th December 1981 whilst at the head of the
1E99 13:05 Liverpool - York service. The trans-Pennine services were a
testing ground for locomotives due to work railtours and on the 12th
December 55009 worked the "The Grampian Deltic" railtour from
Edinburgh to Aberdeen and return.
Parkside is the site of the stone memorial to William Huskisson who was run
over by Stephenson's "ROCKET" during the Rainhill trials. The
memorial is just about visible behind the tree to the left of the photo.
