Super Detailing the Heljan O Gauge Deltic

18/01/16: Introducing DC Control...

Having never dabbled in DCC control or sound decoders previously the following took sometime in achieving - it included a lot of reading matter prior to buying my control centre and ordering my first decoder. In the end I bought the Digitrax Super Chief  5 amp Starter Kit from DCC Supplies and ESU LokSound decoder and 8 ohm speaker from South west Digital. There is one thing for sure this was never a cheap hobby - now it's become extremely expensive though very rewarding to hear your model burst into life...

A plastic cradle is made to isolate the decoder from anything metallic and a speaker box made to hopefully add bass to the speaker...

First attempts to locate the speaker in the body were unsuccessful and in the second photo, now with the wiring complete, the speaker has disappeared to the fuel tanks...

Cab lighting adds a new dimension to the model...

The new home for the speaker box, which required some butchering to get it to fit.

Note: the Heljan fans can be wired to the sound on F14, which goes some way to hide the noisy heljan motors, though they are still a problem and probably wont get used much.

There are plenty of youtube videos of other DCC/sound fitted Heljan Deltics, check them out or go to a show and see one in the flesh - once heard I had to have one!
