Super Detailing the Heljan O Gauge Deltic

19/08/15: Tentative steps...

To remove the bogie/motor support brackets the motor has to be supported in another way and the bogie/chassis support bar loses its top locating ring. Firstly I'm beginning to fabricate a new 'T' section that is supported in the cast bogie segments only. The new support is 1/8 brass tubing with a thin washer soldered to the bottom - the clearance inside the gearbox is tight and only a thin washer can be used...

One side of the cast bogie has to be opened up to accept the washer - note the close proximity of the gear over the centre axle. The cast bogie is seen re-joined and the washer is seen in its new home. A larger washer is soldered above the cast bogie section and the bogie is now supported without the need of the motor bracket. The new spindle now requires a 'T' section which locates into the chassis...

The top of the cast bogies are not necessarily flat - these need to be filed so that the new spindle moves freely.
