The new boiler hatch.
0.4mm brass wire is soldered to the left hand side to represent the hinge and small catches are fabricated from the same wire and soldered to the opposite side. The new plate is seen placed in position, the unwanted holes still require filling...

The cab widows are opened up and will have the representation of the drivers sliding window added later - these can now be open or shut. By removing this window the deflector plate is lost, however, as I am modelling a mid 1960's loco this plate was not present at that time...

It is a well known fact that the Heljan Deltic's fuel tanks are too wide - they should be flush with the tumble-home...

with the tank sides removed the tank itself is virtually flush with the bodyside...

My original tank body was broken therefore I ordered a replacement from Howes of Oxford - the replacement has its sides removed by holding a hack-saw upside down in a vice. A band saw would be preferable - the final cut is to score the bottom and break the side off...

Both sides removed the inner section requires thinning down and the sides re-joining.
