Many people have seen Deltic con-rods available for sale as collectors items or turned into some form of lamp stand, but these immaculate examples are the ones going back into 9016's power unit at Paxmans. Each con-rod has been meticulously cleaned and polished to as new condition. They have also been fitted with new small end bearings and are now ready for re-fitting to the power unit...

This shot shows some of the re-conditioned pistons for 9016's power unit. Each one has been thoroughly cleaned and tested to ensure that they are re-usable. In the foreground can be seen the small end of one con rod, and the split big end of another rod. All the rods and pistons for the power unit have been restored to this very high standard...

This shot show a collection of overhauled gudgeon pin housings on a bench at Paxman's Colchester Works. These are ready for re-fitting to the power unit when the time comes to re-assemble the moving parts of the unit...

Another shot of the overhauled pistons waiting to be re-fitted to 9016's power unit. As can be seen, the aluminium skirt of the pistons have been highly cleaned and polished. The copper piston crowns can also be seen in this shot, again all having been meticulously cleaned and polished. The pistons will soon be re-attached to their con rods, fitted with new piston rings and re-fitted inside the power unit...

Another view of one of the re-furbished pistons for 9016's power unit. Each one has been fitted with new piston rings which are essential for the efficient running of the unit. Each piston has been numbered and photographed prior to re-fitting to ensure a record is kept of its condition. This one is being re-fitted to C5 cylinder.
