55003 (D9003) "MELD" finally arrived at the Doncaster Works scraplines on the 9th March 1981. Here the locomotive is seen one day later with some parts of the bodyshell already removed...

...Deltic detritus at the rear of Doncaster Works on 10th March 1981. The cutting of 55003 (D9003) "MELD" continues as Power unit 429 (ex 55013) lies at the rear of Doncaster Works awaiting scrapping, the power unit had already had its exhaust collector drum removed for further use. Meanwhile power unit 435 (ex 55017) is seen covered by a tarpaulin and available as a source of spares.
