D9004 waits for departure from King's Cross with the down "Aberdonian",
the 1A58 19:30 service for Aberdeen, on the 10th
May 1963 as a class A4 locomotive arrives from the north.
D9004 had been released from Doncaster Works earlier in the day following
various repairs including derailment damage; the AWS receiver had been bent and
broken, a fuel tank holed and guard irons bent. Both bogies were replaced, a new
primary fan shaft was fitted to No.2 power unit 419 and the No.1 right hand
buffer and No.2 left hand fuel tank were also replaced.
