The Vulcan Foundry, Newton-le-Willows, now has a dedicated website which can be found at... http://www.enuii.org/vulcan_foundry/
The site contains background information relating to the works, information
concerning its employees and the locomotives built. Also included are copies of
the former quarterly magazine (autumn 1961 is shown) and some Deltic information
and photographs can be found. Interestingly on Page 6 of this particular
magazine there is a photo dated 20th July 1961 of a completed D9009 (seen above)
and, contrary to popular belief, the locomotive is seen with central
'Lion-and-Wheel' emblems. It has been suggested that locomotives bound for
Finsbury Park, after D9007, were delivered without this embellishment in
readiness for naming.
