The power unit has now been stripped down into its basic component form. This is the bottom crankcase which is the basis for building up the familiar Deltic triangle. A cylinder-liner fits into each of the large holes in the block. The left end of this block attaches to the phasing gearcase, while the right hand end is under the scavenge-blower...

Another view of the same crankcase. In this view it can clearly be seen how the positioning of the liners from this block form two halves of the triangle. More components from the unit can be seen in the background, including on the left, the scavenge-blower casing. The scavenge-blower is also to have its bearings replaced after chemicals from the fire-foam damaged the original roller bearings...

More components from 9016's unit at Paxmans. In this view one of the cleaned up exhaust manifolds can be seen lying next to the collection of cylinder-liners. Once the liners have been honed out, and a list of replacement components required has been made, re-building of the unit to a working engine can commence...

The other cylinder blocks from 9016's unit sit on the storage racks at Paxmans works at Colchester. These have all been cleaned and examined for serviceability in the re-built unit. All as expected, have proved to be OK and now just await their turn to return to the power unit...

A variety of engine blocks and crankcases sit on the racks at Paxman Diesels at Colchester awaiting the re-building of 9016's unit. We hope to soon be able to bring you a set of pictures showing the building up of the power unit from its basics.
