Inspectors riding report states: Lub oil pipe (scavenge pump to roof) on No.2 engine to realign closer to engine. Oil leak on drain, crankcase AB to crankcase CA, No.2 engine. There was a leak on No.2 exhaust collector drum noted after leaving Doncaster but the oil was cleaned off the top of the lub oil tank and from Newark no further leak was noted. Both main generators flashed over at Hougham - No.1 main generator arc horn at 12 o'clock to renew 7 No.2 main generator arc horn and insulator at 9 o'clock to renew. Boiler indicator lamp to renew in No.2 cab & boiler gauges in both cabs to check, these gauges still registered full at Peterborough. When the flashover occurred No.1 engine shut down - the loco speed was 85 mph and the controller fully open. 429 tons, No.1 cab in use in snow showers. The locomotive was examined at Peterborough where the damage to No.2 main generator was noted, agreed to return to works using No.1 engine only. Requested that the works examiner arrange for the traction motors to be examined for possible damage.

Inspectors riding report states: 300 tons plus 90 ton trailing loco, No.1 cab in use, weather fine. This locomotive was on a trial run to check on both main generators which had flashed over on three previous trial runs. The trail was completed satisfactory. Both generators were examined and were in good condition. loco was left in service.

Conclusions 28.05.70: DME KX states: This locomotive was dealt with at Finsbury Park for this defect on 24.05.70 when it was found that the traction motor brushes were short on No.2 bogie & the shortest brushes were changed only due to short stock of same. But in view of the casualty on 26.05.70, when loco was taken out of traffic for No.2 generator to earth, I am of the opinion that there was an intermittent defect in this generator which caused both casualties
