A green and as yet un-named D9010 passes Grantham on Thursday 16th August 1962 with the short lived 1A33 09:45 Edinburgh - King's Cross "The Elizabethan" service. The two non-stop Elizabethan services originating King's Cross 09:30 and Edinburgh 09:45 were introduced from the start of the summer timetable on 18th June 1962 and lasted until the timetables end on 9th September. It had been hoped by British Rail that relief crews would travel in the rear cabs thus enabling a complete non-stop service akin to that which ran in steam powered days. London crews were in fact prepared to pass the whole six hours of the journey in the noisy cab of a Deltic diesel, however, their northern colleagues (Haymarket men) were not so amenable to the idea and an un-advertised stop at Newcastle was introduced for crew changes. With the stop for crew changes in operation it was decided to use it as an additional pick-up and this service began on the 16th July 1962.

Named "THE KING'S OWN SCOTTISH BORDERER" with ceremony at Dumfries, followed by 1Zxx 14:58 Dumfries - Inverness, to Perth (special troop train - via Dalry).

During the naming ceremony for D9010 "KING'S OWN SCOTTISH BORDERER" at Dumfries on May 8th 1965 the plates from Royal Scot 46104 "SCOTTISH BORDERER" were handed over to officers of the Regiment. After the ceremony D9010 took out an Inverness bound military special (carrying KOSB territorial's to their annual camp), travelling via Dalry to Perth, though It's unsure if it went beyond Perth. This would probably mean that it was the first Deltic over the Glasgow & South Western.

It is also possible that the new BR insignia 'Double-Arrows' were applied at this stage, as opposed to the Lion & Wheel emblems, D9010 was the only Deltic locomotive to carry green livery and Double-Arrows. D9002 had been out-shopped in October 1966, following General repair, in experimental blue livery

17.10.77
During the week commencing 17th October 1977 unofficial industrial action led to the removal of Deltics from all ECML workings. Action was taken by maintenance staff angry at the proposed closure of Finsbury Park Depot with the introduction of the new HST fleet, which was to be maintained at the new Bounds Green Depot. Maintenance staff 'blacked' the Deltic fleet thus all engines remained 'laid-up' at various installations until the dispute was settled on October 21st. A list of how the dispute affected the class is as follows:
