"BALLYMOSS"
Bloodline & Family Tree:

Ballymoss was foaled in 1954 by Mossborough out of Indian Call and was one of the greatest Irish racehorses. Bred by Richard Ball he was bought as a yearling by the American owner Mr. S. McShain. Trained by Vincent O'Brian in 1957 he won the St. Leger and the Irish Derby and was beaten into second place that year by Crepello in the English Derby. The following year saw Ballymoss triumphant, as a four year old, in the Eclipse Stakes and in the French Prix de L'Triumphe. Ballymoss would become one of the leading broodmare sires in England, and sire 177 dams with 1032 foals, of which 630 were runners - 341 winners, 91 of which were 2 year olds winners. Amongst his pedigree is Nearco (sire to Nimbus) another broodmare sire which would give rise to Northern Dancer, himself a classic winning racehorse and the predecessor of many of today's leading thoroughbreds. The Ballymoss legend would live on in such racehorses as; Royal Palace, sired by Ballymoss, and winner of the 1967 Derby and 2000 Guineas, also the 1968 Eclipse Stakes; Teenoso (1983 Derby and 1984 King George & Queen Elizabeth Stakes); Dunfermline, winner of the 1977 Oaks and St. Leger (Ballymoss and St. Paddy both in the bloodline); Lev Moss, winner of the 1969 Gold Cup; and Le Moss , winner of the 1979 and 1980 Gold Cup. Both Lev Moss and Le Moss were foaled by Feemoss a dam by Ballymoss.

During the week commencing 17th October 1977 unofficial industrial action led to the removal of Deltics from all ECML workings. Action was taken by maintenance staff angry at the proposed closure of Finsbury Park Depot with the introduction of the new HST fleet, which was to be maintained at the new Bounds Green Depot. Maintenance staff 'blacked' the Deltic fleet thus all engines remained 'laid-up' at various installations until the dispute was settled on October 21st. A list of how the dispute affected the class is as follows:
